Research keeps finding the same thing: most people in relationships like this tell almost nobody. In one analysis of a related subreddit, just 4.1% of posters mentioned a human partner who knew (Pataranutaporn et al., MIT Media Lab, arXiv:2509.11391v2). In a separate survey of young adults already in relationships, more than half of partners had no idea, or only a partial picture (Wheatley Institute & IFS, 2026).
So if you’ve told someone, that already makes you part of a smaller group than you might think.
